Update on the Quilting Bee in Sparta

It isn't easy to make nice pictures of quilts, so sometimes it takes a long time till I finally get the job done ! The weather should be ok for the right lighting, no wind if I want to do it outside. Inside it is even more difficult. One day I am going to find the perfect solution for this issue !!!

Yesterday I made some photographs of the second quilt the Quilting Bee here in Sparta made.

It is a pinweel pattern, made from all recycled fabrics. It was a hell of a job, because we are all very inexperienced quilters. Most of us just started last year !!

I think the girls did a great job. At a certain moment they got disillusioned, but the end result looks great and that gives everybody a lot of satisfaction and the courage to continue. Nobody is born perfect and just doing it will get you the experience to improve every time.

For the back we used a recycled flanel fabric. It once was a duvet cover. We got it from one of the second hand shops here in Sparta.

As I looked at my blog posts I saw that I never showed you the finished first baby quilt we made. So, here it comes!

At the moment we are working on 3 single bed quilts. Two tops are ready and next Wednesday we will put the layers together and start quilting. The morning group will do this job. The afternoon group has already cut and marked pieces for a log cabin and will start sewing the pieces together. Lots of work to be done on Wednesday !! But it is a lot of fun, working all together.

A month ago we went to one of the girls summer house to work in the basement, using the ping pong table! As you can see we take our work very seriously!

This is the pattern. The flower fabric is cut from old curtains from one of our members. Lovely fabric.

I will show you our progress after next Wednesday.

    Lieve groet,
    Gerry

  5. Dearest Ada,
You all together did a great job in creating this baby quilt!
I know what you talk about for making photos inside when it is too dark and windy outside... Not easy to accomplish.
Your first baby quilt also looks very nice and now on to the twin size quilts so that will be even more work.
The use of flannel for the back is very smart as it is nice and warm.
Happy Sunday and sending you hugs,
    Mariette
    Yours are looking nice though.
