Flopsy, the cat

Flopsy, my cat, has, as most cats, a mind of his own! He is not allowed on the beds, except the bed in the basement. The basement is my work space.

Now, whenever I put some fabric or finished project on the bed, Flopsy has to lie on top of it, so  I avoid doing that. Upstairs in the bedrooms I do have quilts and lots of other stuff on the bed, especially in the guest room. Whenever the door is open, Flopsy runs into the room and hides under the bed. Then when I walk away he gets on top. The other day he wanted to hide. I came with the camera, and did he want to look at me.... no way!

He knows he is naughty!

My friend and sister-in-law, who lives in Australia, sent me a lot of quilting goodies. She also added a piece of this dog/cat fabric, a leftover of something she made. Very cute fabric, excellent for a little Flopsy quilt. I just hand quilted the design and I love it.

He loves it too, wouldn't he?

Maybe I needed a bigger piece of fabric ???

Even when he cuddles up, it is a bit small !

He always looks a bit angry, although he is very sweet. He seems to say here: " you woke me up with this stupid flashlight. How dare you! " So I left him at peace, enjoying his new little quilt.

bright coloured baby quilt

It is such a joy to make baby quilts. You can use all kind of colours, from bright to pale. There are great fabrics for sale, I have owls, dinosaurs, monsters, sheep and chickens, vintage cowboys, cars, farm animals! I have no idea when I am going to use all these !!! I am a fabric addict, what to do about that???
Went yesterday with a friend to a secondhand store here in Sparta and saw lovely cotton curtains with bright cars. I couldn't resist again. Well, it is not the only thing I bought !!

A few weeks ago I finished a baby quilt in green and fuchsia.

I love bright colours and threw a few cushions on top of it

I still have to find a better place to make pictures of quilts. The washing line isn't  ok. I was lucky there was no wind and the quilt stayed in place.

New block - Quilters Bee Sparta

Our Quilting Bee meetings started again yesterday. We will start work on two different quilts. One for the advanced quilters and one for beginners.
It was a busy day! I have the Bee in my house and we have a morning and afternoon group. It is so much fun, though ! Everybody gets excited, just by working together, more and more ideas come up !!! Experiences are exchanged! Work made at home is admired! Lots of time the quilters don't even finish their coffee, they just forget. Too focused on the job !!!

This is the block we made yesterday for the first quilt to be made in 2015.
I don't have pictures from the work on the second one yet.

Workshop English Paper Piecing

The English Paper Piecing technique is very relaxing and you can make lots of different designs, the one more beautiful than the other. The most well known shape is that of the hexagons.

The piecing is all done by hand and I love doing this while watching something on tv, having coffee with a friend, travelling and sitting in the garden, surrounded by all the lovely flowers, the smells, the cats playing around. All so peaceful and relaxed.

I made this tablemat, to go with the cupcake cup, as an example of the workshop I am going to give Wednesday afternoon the 18th and Thursday morning the 19th. I love teaching, it is very rewarding. The pupils are so enthusiastic, they so enjoy making something creative!

With Christmas I made a table runner with hexagons. I like the runner. The problem is that it doesn't go very well with my other Christmas decorations. Next year I am going to make another one with different colours and fabrics. I'll add this to  my list of "Projects I am going to make" . God knows when !

Greek QAL - The January houses

These are most of the blocks the group members made for the month January.

Beautiful, aren't they?

I didn't make this picture and can't get it at the right size. Or it becomes big like this, or rather tiny, so you can't see the houses very well!

Greek Facebook Quilt Along - house quilt

On Facebook there is a closed group, called "The Neighbourhood" who organized a Quilt Along (QAL). Every participant is supposed to sew 3 house quilt blocks every month and send the blocks to other members. January 2016 we will each have 36 houses!!! And the whole group will have 36 house quilts!!
This is going to be fun.....and a hell of a lot of work!

These are the first 3 blocks I made and sent away.

The group has all different kind of quilters, from beginners to very experienced ones. The fun is just to enjoy the creativity of every member.  I am sure that I will have  a beautiful, one of a kind, very expressive quilt in the end.
It is also good a exercise for me. I can try out a lot of different techniques on a small piece. So, at the end of the year I will have made a big progress in my patchwork, applique abilities.... at least I hope so!!!

The blocks below are the first three of my quilt, made by:

Nada Xenou-Kokoletsi

Mary Anargyrou

Olga Spitalioraki-Kiritsi

It's the first of February today, so it is time to start the next 3 blocks.
